Professional fire alarm zone plan software can be extremely expensive, often costing thousands of pounds a year. Whether it is an ongoing subscription or a one-off licence for a programme, this can quickly take a sizeable chunk out of your revenue.
So what are the alternatives?
Some fire alarm engineers use a combination of Microsoft Word and Photoshop to create zone plans. While this can work in theory, both licences together can cost over £600 per year.
There is also a steep learning curve. Even after investing the time, the end result often falls short of BS5839 requirements, especially when layouts become more complex.
Another option some engineers turn to is Microsoft Visio. This is another paid programme that allows you to build diagrams and zone charts.
However, Visio is not designed specifically for fire alarm zone plans. That means more time spent learning the software, adapting templates and dealing with subscription costs, which for many engineers makes it hard to justify.
From speaking to engineers, one thing is clear. Creating fire alarm zone plans takes time.
In many cases, this work is done after hours, on evenings or weekends, once installation and commissioning are finished.
That adds pressure and eats into personal time, all for a task that is essential but not always billable.
To solve this problem, we now offer a dedicated fire alarm zone plan creation service.
For conventional fire alarm systems, we can produce compliant zone charts from £135 ex VAT.
For larger or more complex systems, including addressable, wireless or hybrid fire alarm systems, we simply ask for a few details about the building. Once received, we will put a clear quote together before any work begins.
This allows you to save time, avoid expensive software and still receive a professional zone plan that meets the required standards.
